Publicity Stunts

In London there are so many freebie newspapers it's a wonder anyone buys the national newspapers. I reckon freebies are tools the media use to attract their readers. First, whet readers' appetites with the headlines; next, reel them in with part of the story; and before you know it readers are buying newspapers and magazines so they can know the gory details.

In today's Metro, another freebie, I saw a photograph of a Rottweiler called Molly and two lambs which Molly has been looking after. I was so touched by the photograph, I looked up the story on the web. While I found several stories this one was very interesting:

"When K9 Magazine spoke to PR guru Max Clifford in K9 Magazine, we asked him how he would generate some good PR for the Rottweiler, a breed that has received some negative press over the years. He told us he would publish a story involving a Rottweiler saving the life of a child. It seems though, that the Rottweiler has gone one better and doesn't need the help of the UK's most prominent publicist, as one loving Rottweiler seems to have pulled off a PR masterstroke without even realising it.

"Molly, an eleven month old Rottweiler belonging to Maria Forster of Powys has 'adopted' two young lambs and is taking rather good care of the delicate little creatures." Full story at K9 Magazine
It's good to see how PR can be used to promote love.

The media is simply a tool, which in itself is neither good nor bad; it's how you use it that counts.
