Preaching to the Unconverted

While I often drink water straight from the tap, I prefer it cold. I tend to store water in a bottle in the fridge. I woke up in the middle of the night and fancied some water. I drank some water straight from the bottle and kept the bottle beside me so I could have a sip later.

As I was filling up the bottle with water my mother said to me, "Why don't you let the water run before you put it in the bottle?"

I could see her point. Sometimes when you turn the tap on the water that comes out is quite cloudy. I didn't respond, I simply put the bottle of cloudy water in the fridge.

Mum must have realised who she was talking to because she said, "You don't take any notice of these things, do you?"

"You're preaching to the unconverted, mum," I said.

I don't believe in drinking X amount of glasses of water a day, as the experts tell us.
I don't believe in drinking only spring water, tap water suits me fine.
I don't believe in following any diets.
I don't believe in nutrients, carbs or supplements.
I don't believe in pills and potions.
I don't believe in germs.
I don't believe in diseases.
I don't believe in exercises.
I don't believe in beauty products that claim to make you look young.

There are times when I play the game of beliefs even though I don't believe in them. For instance, as soon as I get home, my mother insists that I wash my hands because she believes I have picked up germs on my travels. I do it just to keep the peace.

Belief in germs is like believing in lice. How many adults do you know who have lice? I use public transport a lot and a lot of kids in London travel by buses. How come adults don't catch lice? Because consensus reality states only children have lice.

What do I believe?

I believe in Love.
I believe Love is my nature.
I believe Love is all there is.
I believe in being myself.
