No Fear!

"There is no fear in love; but perfect love casteth out fear." 1 John 4: 18
As I was walking home last night I was aware of two young guys around me: one in front and the other behind. The one in front kept looking back to the one behind who was wearing a hoodie. As I crossed over the road, the guy in front walked beside me. He kept looking back.

"Why do you keep looking back?" I asked him.
"I'm waiting for him," he said indicating the guy behind us.
"Why, do you know him?"
"No, but he looks very suspicious."
"You're not scared of him, are you?"
"No! He does look strange though," he said.
"Oh don't worry, he's harmless," I said.

He looked back once more.

"Where do you live?" he said.
"Just down the road," I said. "Do you live in this neighbourhood?"
"No, I'm just visiting my sister," he said pointing to some houses close by.

He looked behind him. "Do you want me to walk you home?" he said. "That guy does look suspicious."
"No, I'll be fine, thank you."
"You're sure?"
"Yes. Thank you. You take care."
"You too," he said.

Was my friend right about the guy behind us? Did he sense he had ulterior motives? In the dark, the man's hoodie made him appear menacing. These days, young men who wear hoodies are regarded as up to no good. I wear a hoodie and just for fun I like wearing the hood up. It doesn't mean I'm out to mug someone.

If I had taken up my friend's offer to walk me home, I would have been demonstrating a lack of faith in Love's presence.

I walked the rest of the five minute journey safe in the knowledge that I walk in Love and there is nothing to fear.

I AM Love.
