Happiness

You could be the most successful person in the world, as the world defines success, and not be happy. On the other hand, you could have nothing in material terms but be brimming with happiness. What is happiness?

Last night I watched Bridget Jones: The Edge of Reason on television. I've seen the first instalment, Bridget Jones's Diary but not this one. Bridget Jones is a woman in her early thirties struggling with love, relationships and career. The sequel follows Bridget's relationship four weeks after she got together with her beloved Darcy.

I love how true to character Bridget is: Bridget has a good heart, tries very hard to get things right and fails miserably, gets herself into tricky situations, and feels insecure about her weight. Yet Darcy loves her as she is.

Bridget soon has it in her head that Darcy is having an affair with this gorgeous woman and she breaks up with him. Soon she's finds herself working with an ex-boyfriend in Thailand. She's tempted to sleep with him but doesn't go through with it. On her way back to England, Bridget is arrested for drug trafficking. After she's gone through a period of feeling sorry for herself for being in jail, Bridget is back to true Bridget Jones form. In one scene she teaches her fellow inmates how to dance to Madonna's song "Like a Virgin." Finally, her beloved Darcy gets the charges against her dropped.

When Bridget finally confronts the woman she believes is the reason for her and Darcy splitting up, her "rival" confesses that she's not in love with Darcy but with Bridget. That's Bridget for you; when she gets things wrong, she really gets it wrong. Yet her beloved Darcy loves her regardless and they end up back together and engaged.

The reason why we all seek love is because when you're truly accepted for who you are, you can be even more of yourself. It could be you are only open for Love to come from a partner, family and friends. It could be you are open to receive Love from the Universe. There is nothing more wonderful than knowing that every moment the Universe accepts you as you are regardless of your beliefs or behaviour. As you allow yourself to be and experience love, you are giving yourself the freedom to be yourself.

The wonderful thing about being yourself is that the Universe picks up on that vibe and reflects it back to you. You find everything around you is inspired to be themselves. What better gift to give others than to be yourself.

Happiness is being true to yourself. The way to be true to yourself is to love yourself as who you are.

I am who I am; I am happiness.
