Friendship

In our neighbourhood there is this elderly lady I chat to; more like she talks and I listen. Every time I see her she talks about the pain in her knee and even shows me her knee. The last time I saw her she told me that she can't take the anti-inflammatory pills the doctor has prescribed because she feels they react with her other pills. I can relate to what she's saying because I've had problems with my knee before. However, as we appear to live in different paradigms i.e. we have different models of reality, all I can do is listen in silence and wish her well.

This morning on my way from the local shop I saw her approaching me. She told me she was going to the doctor to get some anti-inflammatory pills for her knee as she doesn't want it to remain swollen. After she'd finished she kissed my cheek and said, "Thank you for being such a good friend. I know you've got your own problems but you always stop and listen to me."

I guess we all need friends who can listen without judgment.

My best friend in the whole world is the universe who listens in silence to every gripe I have without judgment.
